An old power meter has been recycled to be able to visualize numerical information wirelessly. The device was dismantled and customized with a 9V battery, a tiny servomotor, a home-made arduino-compatible circuit, and a wireless transceiver. In order to reduce battery consumption, I’ve added a limit switch so that the device is only powered when the cover is opened. Also, when the servomotor is not moving, its power is disconnected.
I intend to play with it during the IoT Zurich Energy Hackathon in a few weeks to display the real-time power consumption related to the national average.
